| How do I find a webhosting provider that will let me edit/synchronize my MySQL databases locally using MySQL Grinder? It doesn't work with the system I'm using now. |

Hm, that will always depend on the host provider. Some allow you access, some don't. You'll just have to ask them to find out. Our provider, XRack Hosting, which uses Mac OS X running on XServes, allows access.

| I guess what I really need to know is what question to ask (not sure how to phrase it). |

Ah, got it. I think it's a matter of whether or not they will configure and open up a port for you, so that you can access it using JDBC.

I'm eager to try out SQLGrinder on a live webserver. After all, phpMyAdmin is "okay" but I'm looking for something easier and more fun to use (and AppleScriptable — yay!).
Here's a follow-up question: Is the ability to use clients like SQLGrinder a function of the difference between the typical definition of "shared" hosting vs. "dedicated" hosting? |
